Critical role for the p110[alpha] phosphoinositiude-3-OH kinase in growth and metabolic regulation
Article Abstract:
A ubiquitously expressed PI(3)K involved in tyrosine kinase and Ras signalling to delineate the role of p110[alpha] and a mice carrying a knocin mutation (D933A) that abrogates p110[alpha] kinase activity is generated. The findings demonstrate a critical role for p110[alpha] in growth factor and metabolic signalling and also suggest an explanation for selective mutation or overexpression of p110[alpha] in a variety of cancers.

Essential role for the p110delta phosphoinositide 3-kinase in the allergic response
Article Abstract:
The genetic or pharmacological inactivation of the p110 delta isoform of PI (3) K in mast cells is investigated, which leads to defective SCF-mediated in vitro proliferation, adhesion, and migration, and to impaired allergen-IgE-induced degranulation and cytokine release. These results identify p110 delta as a new target for therapeutic intervention in allergy and mast-cell-related pathologies.

PYY modulation of cortical and hypothalamic brain areas predicts feeding behaviour in humans
Article Abstract:
The impact of peptide Y[Y.sub.3-36] (PYY) in modulating the neural activity in cortical, as well as hypothalamic areas of the brain that determines the feeding behaviour in humans is explained. The hypothalamic areas are found to be dominant in people with low levels of PYY.
